The City of Bath has a total population of about 79,500, according to the Electoral Roll. The majority of residents are aged between 25 and 44 years but, with two Universities and a College, the city is home to a significant student population, 16,000 of which are full time. Around 90% of the population is White British.
The Committee works to ensure that the city’s entry is representative of a broad range of projects from different areas, involving people of all ages and from all walks of life.
Bath and North East Somerset Council has launched its own volunteering scheme to encourage staff to give time to supporting local community projects. This operates year round, but a number of specific activities are organised for Volunteer Week each June. These often involve ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ projects across Bath and North East Somerset. The Council involves staff from Curo, a large social housing landlord, in these activities as well as students from the University of Bath and Bath Spa University College.
The Council also works in partnership with the local Volunteer Centre to help match other ‘corporate volunteers’ from local businesses with community projects in the area.
